The purpose of a Music Policy is to outline the school’s approach to teaching and provision for Music. It’s very individual and tailored to the school. Often, although not always, the music policy will reflect the style of policies used for other curriculum subjects.
Music policies are often organized in different ways but demonstrate:
• Curriculum Intent – what does the music curriculum intend to do
• Implementation – how is the curriculum implemented, this will usually be the section where Sparkyard is mentioned, if you're using it for your music curriculum.
• Impact- what progress will the children make
Although every school will have differing levels of detail in their Music Policy, an example paragraph for the implementation section, for a school that uses Sparkyard might be: We follow the Sparkyard Music Curriculum. It uses a skills-based approach where key musical concepts and themes are developed and revisited across the year groups, building on knowledge and understanding at every stage.
This can then be built upon to detail how the curriculum is organised, and taught to different year groups.
